EPFL to visit FAO projects in Burkina Faso

Premier League Chairman Sir David Richards will be among a EPFL delegation visiting FAO humanitarian crisis projects in Burkina Faso.

The delegation of high representatives of the Association of European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL) is travelling next Sunday to Burkina Faso to visit EU-funded FAO humanitarian crisis projects, within the framework of the successful Campaign "Professional Football Against Hunger".
During the two-day visit, the EPFL delegation will visit several projects and contact the local population and institutions, both in rural and peri-urban areas, in an effort to raise awareness of the international community and restore the self reliance of people affected by the 2010 food emergency caused by drought and torrential rain the Sahel area.

Global Hunger

The delegation, led by Sir David Richards and Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, respectively Chairman and CEO of the EPFL, will count with the participation of Hristo Stoichkov, European Footballer of the Year 1994 and Ambassador of the Campaign, and Stefan Kapralov, President of the Bulgarian Professional Football League.
Representing the 30 largest European Professional Football Leagues and almost 950 clubs, the EPFL joined FAO at the forefront of the fight against global hunger and poverty in 2008, launching a "Professional Football Against Hunger" campaign. Recently, both organisations were teamed up by the world's largest humanitarian donor, the European Union - Humanitarian Aid (EU), as a new partner to bring the unacceptable level of hunger under the attention of European citizens.
The field visit will be followed by a Press Conference, organised at the Hotel Azalai of Burkina Faso's Capital City, Ouagadougou, next Monday, 14th March 2011, at 16:00 (local time).
