Milan's Urby Emanuelson scored to level the first leg of the semi-final in the 75th minute after Palermo had taken a 2-1 advantage.
"The important thing was to avoid a defeat and we found the equaliser," Allegri said. "We enjoyed a good start and wasted a few opportunities to double our lead before Palermo equalised.
"Palermo made life difficult for us with their fast counter attacks. Now we will prepare for the return leg against Palermo in the best possible way to reach the final."
Milan have not won the Coppa Italia since the 2002/03 campaign. I Rossoneri will have Alexandre Pato available for the return leg at the Renzo Barbera stadium on 10 May with the Brazilian striker having missed yesterday's clash through injury.
