Bayern Munich needed a late penalty to secure a 1-1 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt today.
Sebastian Rode gave Frankfurt the lead after 54 minutes before Mario Gomez equalised from the spot in the 89th minute.
Bayern controlled possession for most of the first half but could not create any real chances against the compact Frankfurt defence in the opening 45 minutes.
The visitors remained ineffective in attack and had to watch as the relegation-threatened hosts grabbed the lead after 53 minutes.
Benjamin Kohler's free-kick deflected off Frankfurt striker Theofanis Gekas to Rode and the 20-year-old blasted just inside the far left post for his first Bundesliga goal in his ninth appearance.
Bayern pushed forward with all their might and Gomez had a one-on-one situation in the 80th minute but Frankfurt goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann got down to keep the ball out.
Frankfurt had a great chance to make it 2-0 two minutes later but Gekas shot wide of an open goal from three yards out after a cross from Marco Russ.
Bayern cried out for a penalty in the 83rd minute but were not given it despite a clear handball by Frankfurt's Ricardo Clark in the area.
Fahrmann again stopped Gomez four minutes later, but the Bayern striker got the best of the duel in the 89th minute from the spot to equalise.
Martin Fenin was ruled to have fouled Luiz Gustavo in the box and Gomez stepped up to the spot to score his 23rd goal of the season after Bayern players had missed six of their last nine spot-kicks.
"We are very disappointed," said Bayern caretaker coach Andries Jonker. "In this situation, we simply had to win and when you travel to a relegation candidate like Frankfurt, you have to take three points.
"We really raised our game in the last 20 minutes to force the draw, but overall we had no right to claim three points."
