Nancy continued their impressive run of form by holding Bordeaux to a goalless draw this evening to pull further clear of the Ligue 1 relegation battle they were very much a part of only a few weeks ago.
A stalemate seemed the least likely outcome during the opening seconds of the game as Nancy striker Djamal Bakar tested Cedric Carrasso in the Bordeaux goal with the first effort of the encounter.
Nancy, unbeaten in their last three games going into game, continued to dominate proceedings as midfielder Bakaye Traore headed over when well placed. That miss seemed to stir Bordeaux into life and, in the 11th minute, Fahid Ben Khalfallah stung the palms of Damien Gregorini with a rasping drive from outside the penalty area as the visitors started to impose themselves.
The match then settled down and very few chances were created before half-time, only an attempt from a tight angle from Bordeaux's Anthony Modeste really troubling either goalkeeper. Modeste, who had been urged by coach Jean Tigana going into the game to score more goals, then took centre stage in the opening ten minutes of the second half.
The 22-year-old Frenchman forced two decent saves from Gregorini and fired another shot wide as he looked to single-handedly take the game away from the hosts. Samba Diakite's shot from distance was Nancy's only effort of note during a poor second half as both teams seemed to settle for a point.
