On Sunday, the 22-year-old had hinted at a move to Newcastle, saying that he did "not need one of the very big clubs at this stage of my career."
Although his choice of words may not have gone down well with Newcastle fans, Taarabt's comments appeared to rule out a move to a 'Big Four' club.
But according to Caughtoffside.com, Premier League champions Man Utd are considering a bid for the Morocco international, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson said to be readying a move for the former Lens and Tottenham youngster.
Ferguson is looking to bring in a number of younger players over the summer and after signing Blackburn defender Phil Jones earlier this month has also in recent days been linked with a move for the likes of Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez, Tottenham's Gareth Bale (see below) and Blackpool captain Charlie Adam.
Taarabt is ready to quit QPR this summer and told the Mail on Sunday of contract talks at Loftus Road: "They want me to stay four years on the same terms. I don’t want to sign for four years then after one year I am going to be back in The Championship.
"No disrespect, but if we keep the same players, it will be very difficult to stay in the Premier League when you are playing Manchester United and Chelsea."
Taarabt is keen on staying in the Premier League despite interest from abroad and with Paris Saint-Germain also reportedly interested in him, he added: "Why should I go to France and play some games in front of 7,000 people? I like it in England. The stadiums are full all the time.
"I understand that QPR have changed my life. People had almost forgotten me when I joined from Tottenham. But I don’t think they are being fair to me.
"People say Newcastle will be good for me, that the fans love players like me. It is fantastic to play in front of 50,000 supporters every week.
"I do not need one of the very big clubs at this stage of my career."
