Andre Villas-Boas is set to be confirmed as Chelsea's new manager after Porto confirmed they have received payment for the €15million release clause in the 33-year-old's contract
Villas Boas quit as Porto coach on Tuesday morning, with the Lusa news agency reporting that he had paid the £13.2m termination fee himself.
On Tuesday evening, the club confirmed that the payment had been made and issued a statement to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission.
It read: "FC Porto, in accordance with Article 248 paragraph 1 of the Securities Code, hereby informs the market they have received from Mr Andre Villas-Boas the amount provided for in clause to terminate his employment contract."
Porto also confirmed the appointment of Vitor Pereira as their new coach on a two-year contract and added on their official website: "The amount has been deposited on the termination clause of the work contract of Andre Villas-Boas."
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is also believed to be prepared to pay £26.5million in order for Villas-Boas to bring Porto striker Falcao to Stamford Bridge with him this summer (see below).
Villas Boas, who had a spell at Stamford Bridge as a coach while Jose Mourinho was in charge before he made the move into club management, is believed to have been offered a three-year deal worth around £19m.
