After helping the Latics sidestep relegation from the Barclays Premier League, Cleverley has reiterated his intention to force his way into Sir Alex Ferguson's first-team plans.
The England Under 21 international said: "I'll be back at United next year. Of course, Wigan will be the first result I'll look for and the club will always be close to my heart.
"We achieved what we wanted as a team and that means everything to me. Staying up was the best moment of my career.
"Now I go back looking to build on what I've done and hopefully make my mark at Old Trafford."
