FC Barcelona to sign Cesc Fabregas in £40million deal?

Barcelona are reportedly ready to increase their bid for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas to £40million

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has made the 24-year-old Spain international his top summer transfer target as he looks to finally sign the midfielder after a two-year pursuit.

Reports earlier this week suggested Barca were preparing to make a £30m bid for Fabregas, although the Gunners are believed to be only prepared to consider bids closer to £50m.

But according to the Daily Star, Barca are now prepared to increase their bid to £40m, with a source saying: "They still have not spoken formally to Arsenal about him.

"They had wanted to do it while they were in London for the Champions League Final but it never happened. But they will not give up."

Barca and Guardiola could still face competition from Manchester City, who are preparing for their first ever Champions League campaign next season.

The People recently reported that City are preparing to set a new British transfer record, with the club's Abu Dhabi owners ready to offer £58m for Fabregas.

AC Milan have also shown interest in the Spaniard, but recently ruled out making a bid.
