Genoa have appointed Alberto Malesani as their coach for next season, the club have confirmed.
Malesani replaces Davide Ballardini, who parted company with Il Grifone earlier this month.
A brief statement from Genoa read: "Genoa announces they have hired Alberto Malesani as the new coach of the first team. Malesani will take over from 1 July 2011."
The 57-year-old has coached numerous Italian clubs in a career that began in 1993.
Last month Malesani turned down a contract extension with Bologna after helping the team retain their Serie A status despite being handed a three-point deduction.
Genoa finished tenth in Serie A last season.
