Manchester United are reportedly prepared to offer Nani to Inter Milan in order to sign midfielder Wesley Sneijder this summer
27-year-old Sneijder earlier this week declared he is happy at the San Siro and has no plans to leave the club, with both United and Chelsea keen on signing him before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
But United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is still hopeful of signing the Netherlands international and is believed to be considering a firm offer should he fail to lure Samir Nasri away from Arsenal.
And according to the Daily Mirror, United are ready to offload Portugal international Nani as part of the deal.
Nani enjoyed his best run of form to date at Old Trafford last season, but the pending £16million arrival of Ashley Young next week could see him pushed down the pecking order under Ferguson, who in the latter stages of the season chose to start with Antonio Valencia on the right of midfield.
Juventus have been showing interest in Nani, 24, for some time, and the winger is said to be open-minded about the prospect of leaving the Red Devils this summer.
If United do sign Nasri - with intermediaries from both camps having met this week to discuss a potential deal - then Nani would likely be heading for the exit door anyway.
With speculation that Manchester City are also preparing to make a bid to sign Sneijder, the former Real Madrid player was reported last weekend to be in California to consider a move to England.
Sneijder this week insisted he wants to stay in Milan, telling Corriere dello Sport: "There is a family atmosphere at Inter and there are all the ingredients to aim high.
"Milan is marvellous, picturesque and full of elegance. I love it. At the moment I am very happy here and I don't see why I should leave."
The comments come in contrast to Sneijder previously hinting at a move to United, calling them a "beautiful club."
Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan also believed the player wanted a move to the Premier League, telling talkSPORT: "We know that Wesley is really keen to move to Manchester, I think it is United most of all.
"He knows that Scholes is retiring and that is the job for him, the role is made for him at Old Trafford."
