Real Madrid CF target Michael Essien keen on AC Milan move - report

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will reportedly reject an £18million bid from Real Madrid for Michael Essien - but the midfielder is interested in a move to AC Milan

According to The Sun, Chelsea's billionaire owner is ready to stop former Blues boss Jose Mourinho from taking the Ghana international to the Spanish capital this summer, with a source telling the newspaper that the Russian "is not going to sell."

But the Daily Mirror reports that the 28-year-old, who Mourinho took to Stamford Bridge in 2005 in a deal worth £24m, is keen on joining Milan.

The Serie A champions have been showing interest in Essien since the back end of last season, and city rivals Inter are also believed to be monitoring his availability.

And according to Wednesday's report, Essien has told friends he is open to a move to the San Siro if the price is right.

Essien's agent earlier this week denied that the midfielder was seeking a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Fabien Pivateau denying new Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas wanted to offload him.

"There's absolutely no chance of Essien leaving Chelsea," Pivateau told MTNFootball.com.

He added: "The new coach knows Essien very well having worked at the club before and he knows what Michael can do for the club.

"Michael is also focused on staying at the club because he has a very good relationship with the team's supporters, the new manager and the club owner.

"He is not leaving."
