Thiago Alcantara won't leave FC Barcelona for Arsenal FC says his father

The father of Thiago Alcantara has dismissed reports that the Barcelona youngster could join Arsenal this summer as part of a deal for Cesc Fabregas

Reports on Monday morning suggested that Barca were prepared to let the 20-year-old leave the club to join the Gunners as part of a deal that would see the Spanish champions finally sign Arsenal captain Fabregas after a two-year pursuit (see below).

Alcantara is highly rated by the Catalan giants but with his chances of first-team football at Camp Nou currently limited, it was reported that he could be offloaded to try and push through a deal for the midfielder.

But his father, former Brazil international Mazinho, claims Alcantara remains part of Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola's plans and will not be leaving the club.

"We have seen the news in the papers, but I belive that Thiago is in the plans of Guardiola for next season," Mazinho told EFE.

"My son stays at Barcelona. They have a contract and we have decided it's continuity.

"Thiago is developing and needs to evolve.

"This season was important, but next season could be better."
