Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has admitted that he has had a hair transplant in a bid to restore his receding hairlineThe England international announced via his Twitter page that he had the treatment at a hair clinic on London's famous Harley Street.
Reports in Saturday's British newspapers had revealed Rooney had undergone the treatment and the 25-year-old soon confirmed it via the social networking site.
He tweeted: "Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25 why not."
Rooney's wife Coleen also took to Twitter to confirm the news, making sure people knew it was his decision.
"Hiya!! Yes waynes had his hair done! His own decision not me asking him, like alot are saying!! Pleased for him and it will look great," she tweeted.
Rooney's United and England team-mate Rio Ferdinand joked: "Just don't go down the wearing a alice band route!! You'll be doing head&shoulders adverts soon! Hope its gone ok Good luck lad."
Rooney has been teased by his United team-mates in the past about his hair, with Michael Owen last month also using Twitter to joke about the former Everton forward.
"How old are you in that photo? Your face looks like a 12 year olds but your hair looks like a 60 year old," said Owen.
Rooney, who missed Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland through suspension, later on Saturday told his Twitter followers: "My head is bruised still. I promise u all I will send a pic on Monday morning when bruising goes."
