Bastian Schweinsteiger claims Jupp Heynckes will be a good choice as Louis van Gaal's successor as Bayern Munich coach.
Van Gaal will leave the Allianz Arena in the summer and Heynckes, who is standing down as Bayern Leverkusen coach at the end of the season, is regarded as the number one candidate to succeed him.
Heynckes was in caretaker charge of Bayern for five games at the end of the 2008/09 campaign following the departure of Jurgen Klinsmann.
"Very good choice," Schweinsteiger said in a interview with Stern magazine. "Jupp Heynckes knows the club, helped us for five games here in 2009. We reached the Champions League with him with four wins and a draw."
Bayern have had a disappointing season, finding themselves well off the pace in Bundesliga title race and out of the UEFA Champions League.
But Schweinsteiger, currently with the Germany squad ahead of their UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier against Kazakhstan in Kaiserslautern on Saturday, insists Bayern are still one of the top clubs in Europe.
"I am now very confident that we as a club are well enough set for the coming years to win the Champions League," he added.
"There are not many teams in Europe who are better than us." He added: "I don't believe that one of our leading players will go."
