Chelsea FC could sign Javier Pastore in €50million deal from Palermo

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has hinted that Chelsea target Javier Pastore could move to Stamford Bridge for €50million

The 21-year-old's agent revealed at the weekend that Chelsea were yet to make official contact, with the Blues believed to be favourites to sign the highly-rated playmaker this summer.

Chelsea are one of a number of clubs believed to be keen on signing the Argentina international, with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Man City just some of the clubs who have been linked with Palermo's prize asset recently.

Zamparini last month warned that Pastore would not be sold on the cheap following reports in Italy that Roma had made a €30m bid for the midfielder.

But although it appears no firm bids have come Palermo's way since the end of the season, Zamparini has suggested that he would find it difficult to turn down a €50m bid.

"How could anyone turn down €50m cash for Pastore? I never saw such an offer," he was quoted by Il Giornale as saying.

"Do you think if they put that money on the table, that I would throw it away?

"I don’t know if Chelsea ever made this offer. It might’ve been to his agent, but it never reached me. If it did arrive, then I would think about it carefully."

He added: "Pastore is a player worthy of top clubs, like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Milan or Inter.

"He is tied to the Palermo jersey, but he also looks at his wallet. How can I keep a player when elsewhere they are offering four times his current wages?

"We have already mapped out two teams with our new coach Stefano Pioli: one with Pastore and one without."
