Didier Deschamps will see out the final year of his contract as coach of Marseille, according to a senior club official. There had been speculation that Deschamps, who captained France to FIFA World Cup™ glory in 1998, would leave the Provencale club this summer.
However, the chairman of the club's supervisory board Vincent Labrune today told L'Equipe: "I can confirm that Didier Deschamps will stay with OM next season."
Deschamps signed an extension through to 2012 a year ago, at a time when he was being strongly linked with the Liverpool job.
Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier said today: "I have been telling you this for a month! I knew he would respect his contract. It is believed the grass is always greener elsewhere, but he is very happy at Marseille. We have been focused on next season for a long time."
