Bordeaux have confirmed the appointment of Francis Gillot as their new coach on a two-year deal.Gillot impressed in charge of Sochaux last season, leading the team to a fifth-placed finish and qualification for next season's UEFA Europa League. The 51-year-old will be joined at Bordeaux by assistants Rene Lobello and Alain Benedet.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Bordeaux is pleased to announce the signing of Francis Gillot. The former Sochaux coach has committed to two seasons at the club."
Bordeaux finished seventh in Ligue 1 last season in a generally disappointing campaign which culminated in the sacking of Jean Tigana last month. Eric Bedouet fulfilled the role of caretaker for the final three weeks of the season.
Gillot had already spoken of his interest in taking charge at Bordeaux prior to today's confirmation of the switch, and will be aiming to improve the fortunes of a club which won the Ligue 1 title just two years ago.
This is a club with great potential and I hope to give my full potential. We will try, with my staff, to wake this team. Our mission is to work hard.
Francis Gillot, new Bordeaux coach
"It's always complicated to announce targets. The less we talk, the fewer problems there will be. In Ligue 1, there is very little to separate the teams - a bad run and you find yourself down; a good run and you're up.''
Gillot said at a press conference to announce his arrival: "I had the opportunity to continue at Sochaux but Bordeaux had asked for me and I was very proud that they had confidence in me. I thank them.
"I did not hesitate when Bordeaux made their interest known, this was a difficult offer to refuse. This is a club with great potential and I hope to give my full potential. We will try, with my staff, to wake this team. Our mission is to work hard."
