Luis Garcia is to take over as coach of Getafe, the Spanish first division club announced on its website today. The 38-year-old Spaniard, who quit Levante yesterday, will be presented at a press conference on tomorrow.
He takes over from Jose Miguel Gonzalez, known as Michel, who was sacked after Getafe finished 16th last season, narrowly avoiding relegation.
The local media claims that Garcia has signed a three-year deal with the club from the Madrid suburbs although there has been no official confirmation of that. As a player Garcia never moved higher than the Spanish third division before retiring through injury at the age of 28.
He has enjoyed greater success as a coach, notably during his three years with Levante with whom he won promotion to the first division in 2010, finishing 14th last season, two places and one point above his new club.
