City are one of a number of clubs believed to be keen on signing the PFA Player of the Year this summer, with Premier League champions Manchester United also showing interest in the Wales international, along with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
Recent reports suggested Chelsea and United were preparing to a move for the former Southampton player this summer, but according to the Sunday Express, big spending Man City are ready to make their move as they prepare for their first ever Champions League campaign.
It is thought that City boss Roberto Mancini sees Bale as being the type of signing that could take the club to the next level next year as they look to build on their third place finish in the Premier League last month, as well as their FA Cup win.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp recently insisted that none of his star players would be sold this summer, but chairman Daniel Levy has since said that the wage bill will have to be reduced as a result of the club not playing Champions League football next season.
City are seemingly now ready to test the club's resolve, although Tottenham are believed to want closer to £50m to be convinced to part with their prize asset.
