Arsenal are ready to make an offer in the region of £12m for Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero as the Emirates Stadium side look to bring in a replacement for seemingly exit bound French international Samir Nasri.
Arsene Wenger is said to be an admirer of the former Spanish Under 21 international who is something of a bit part player at the Bernabeu and the Gunners boss reportedly scouted the Madrid born midfielder last season and will now look to make an offer for the former Getafe man.
Whilst Granero has found first team opportunities hard to come by during the Jose Mourinho reign he is a well respected midfielder who is known for his creative ability and his adaptability. The signings of Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira last summer limited Esteban Granero’s starting chances and the arrival of Nuri Sahin may leave the way open for Arsenal.
It may be a wrench for Granero to leave the club he has represented since the age of 8, one year at Getafe aside, but the chance to secure regular first team football may well tempt him into considering an offer from the Premier League side.
Wenger is looking to bring in new additions to help appease the club’s top performers and whilst Arsenal are apparently busy trying to complete deals to sign the likes of Gervinho from Lille and Christopher Samba from Blackburn Rovers, as yet no purchases have been finalised.
Whilst Granero has struggled to maintain a regular spot in the Real Madrid first team squad he has managed to notch up 68 appearances over the past two seasons, albeit 30 of those coming from the bench.
