Tottenham Plan £22m Double Man United Star Bid

Harry Redknapp is reportedly planning a move to bring Man United pair Dimitar Berbatov and Jonny Evans to White Hart Lane as the Tottenham boss looks to push his North London side back into the Premier League top four.

Sir Alex Ferguson may be amenable to offers for either player having spent upwards of £50m this summer on new additions and neither the Bulgarian or Northern Ireland internationals are first choice starters and could both be interested in a move to secure regular first team football.
Berbatov left Tottenham on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2008, a move that angered some at White Hart Lane as the former Bayer Leverkusen man had appeared to engineer a move away the moment he heard of interest from the Old Trafford side. Redknapp will not worry about past incidents as he is keen to improve his striking options.
Last term Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane all failed to make an impact and the Tottenham boss has been busily looking at potential striking purchases this summer but as yet has failed to bring in any new faces.
As well as attacking shortcomings, Redknapp also had a major headache with his central defence with a number of players out with injuries and Ledley King still remains a constant doubt and the likes of William Gallas and Michael Dawson have also spent time out on the sidelines and Jonathan Woodgate has been allowed to leave the club this summer after his contract was not renewed.
This has led to interest in 23 year old Belfast born defender Evans who’s first team chances will be further limited this coming season. The young centre back found himself behind Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Chris Smalling last term and Phil Jones’ arrival from Blackburn Rovers could be the death knell for a player who’s career has stuttered of late following initially impressing when he first burst onto the scene at the Premier League champions.
Harry Redknapp has repeatedly stated his intention to keep his star performers at the club and has fought off interest in Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart but will continue to look to cash in on squad player sales having already sold Jamie O’Hara to Wolves. The Tottenham manager hopes to also find buyers for Niko Kranjcar, Robbie Keane, David Bentley, Giovani dos Santos a quartet who only managed five Premier League starts between them last term. Off form midfielder Wilson Palacios may also be offloaded if a decent offer is forthcoming.
