Manchester United and Chelsea could sign Tottenham duo Gareth Bale and Luka Modric this summer - but only for a combined £75million
Modric has been linked with both the Blues and Premier League champions United in recent weeks and according to the Daily Mirror could be allowed to leave White Hart Lane for around £25m.
But his Spurs team-mate Bale would only be allowed to leave the club if a bid comes in that equals the British transfer record, which was set in January when Fernando Torres joined Chelsea from Liverpool for £50m.
Inter Milan have also been keen on Modric for some time, with reports in Italy last month claiming they were preparing to make a move for the Croatia international.
But Manchester United are believed to be favourites to land the playmaker as manager Sir Alex Ferguson looks for a creative midfielder to replace Paul Scholes next season.
Modric has also been linked with Manchester City, who are preparing for their first ever Champions League campaign, while Bale has been linked with a number of top clubs from across Europe, with speculation about his future being a topic of conversation for some time despite him signing a new contract at the club earlier this year.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp had recently insisted none of his star players would be sold this summer, but chairman Daniel Levy has since said that the wage bill will have to be reduced as a result of the club not playing Champions League football next season.
