Man Utd target Sneijder, Modric and Young in £70million triple swoop

Manchester United are considering moves for Luka Modric, Wesley Sneijder and Ashley Young as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to overhaul his squad following Paul Schoes' decision to retire

Ferguson has been keen on signing Inter Milan midfielder Sneijder for some time, with the 26-year-old, who has also been linked with a move to Chelsea, understood to be high on United's list of potential summer signings.

Inter president Massimo Moratti recently confirmed United's interest in the Netherlands international and is prepared to sell the £30million-rated player this summer, despite him only recently signing a new long-term deal at the San Siro.

But Sneijder himself last month revealed he is happy at Inter and has no plans to move to Old Trafford, which may mean Ferguson has to look elsewhere.

Although the Scot would reportedly consider bringing in both Sneijder and Tottenham playmaker Modric, Tottenham's Croatian midfielder is believed to be the more likely of the two to move to Manchester this summer.

Modric, who has also been linked with Chelsea recently, could be allowed to leave Spurs this summer for around £25m, according to the Daily Mirror.

Inter Milan have also been keen on Modric for some time, with reports in Italy last month claiming they were preparing to make a move for the Croatia international, who was seen by some as a possible replacement for Sneijder.

But Manchester United are believed to be favourites to land the playmaker as Ferguson looks for a creative midfielder to replace Scholes.

Aston Villa winger Ashley Young is also on Ferguson's shopping list, with the England international set to leave Villa Park this summer.

The 25-year-old is also on Liverpool's radar, but the Merseysiders may well look to instead sign Young's Villa team-mate, Stewart Downing.

Young would likely cost in the region of £15m.
