Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs could reportedly retire from football over allegations about extra-marital affairs
Giggs has made the headlines in recent weeks for non-footballing reasons, with fears from those close to him that he could quit the game as a result.
Last month, Giggs was named in Parliament by Lib Dem MP John Hemmings as having an alleged affair with reality TV star Imogen Thomas, while last weekend saw allegations that the 37-year-old had an on-off relationship with his brother's wife, Natasha, over an eight-year period.
The Daily Mirror earlier this week reported that the former Wales international was seen flirting with Natasha's 49-year-old mum at family gatherings and now the same newspaper reports that Giggs could walk away from United.
A family friend was quoted as saying: "We fear that Ryan will go now and just call it a day once and for all.
"The feeling is another year is just one too many for him to be bothered with. A lot of supporters have lost a lot of faith in him, and Ryan doesn’t need the hassle of taking stick from away fans."
A club source told the newspaper: "Concerns are growing. Sir Alex [Ferguson] is willing to cut Ryan some slack and give him extra days off to clear his head."
