Real Madrid CF could trial new formation for 2011-12 season - report

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho will reportedly make changes to his formation next season in order to accomodate new signing Nuri Sahin

Sahin agreed to join the Spanish giants last month and joins Los Blancos on a six-year deal.

According to Marca, the arrival of the midfielder, who is believed to have cost Real around £8million, will lead to Mourinho scrapping the 4-2-3-1 formation which was used for most of last season.

Last season saw the Special One often opt to start with Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira playing as holding midfielders, behind a more attacking trio of Angel Di Maria, Mesut Ozil and Cristiano Ronaldo, who would provide support to a lone striker.

But according to the report, Mourinho is planning to play with a 4-3-3 formation which would likely see Sahin start alongside Alonso and Khedira in a flat midfield behind an attacking trio.

Based on the options currently available to him, that would likely mean Mourinho starts with Ronaldo in attack alongside Karim Benzema, leaving Ozil, Di Maria and Kaka fighting for the final place in the starting line-up.

Of course, should further new signings arrive at the club as expected, it may well be that the likes of Benzema is left warming the bench, as Real continued to be linked with Santos striker and Atletico Madrid forward Sergio Aguero.

Mourinho also has Gonzalo Higuain available up front.
