According to Terry, it is Chelsea's star-studded strikeforce that United should fear, with the likes of Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres, Nicolas Anelka, Florent Malouda and Salomon Kalou all capable of inciting panic in the hearts of any defence.
Terry said: "It can be pretty daunting for opponents when they see us bringing on players like Nando [Torres], Didier [Drogba], Nico [Anelka], Sala [Kalou] or Florent [Malouda].
"Those front five are so important to everything we are doing at the moment.
Chelsea have scored 66 goals in the Premier League so far this season, third behind only United and Arsenal, and Terry believes it is the ability of their strikers to step up whenever they are called upon that can make the difference in their title bid.
"Whoever plays up front is stepping up to the mark and for us to have a chance of winning the title we need those big guys always ready.
While most clubs would struggle to maintain harmony among such an abundance of strikers, Terry assured that they were all content to play their role, and accepted when it was their turn to sit on the bench.
"Three lads start the game and the other two usually come on at some stage but there's no arguing among the players and no disappointment.
With United just three points ahead of Chelsea and with the same goal difference, Terry is aware winning this season's title could be decided by goal difference.
However, with Malouda, Kalou and Drogba all amongst the goals recently, Terry believes there could be no better time for the Chelsea attack to start firing.
"It's so tight at the top and the title could come down to goal difference.
"Florent, Sala and Didier have all rediscovered their shooting boots and that has come at just the right time for us."
The Blues skipper will get the chance to put his faith to the test this Sunday, when Chelsea travel to Old Trafford and come up against one of the more formidable defences in the Premier League.
