Reo-Coker regularly took the armband when Stiliyan Petrov was unavailable and was a regular starter this season, making Gerard Houllier's starting XI 24 times.
The Former England U21 captain joined from West Ham for £7.5m four years ago and made 123 appearances, scoring three goals.
Carew arrived at Villa from Lyon in June 2005 with a big reputation and established himself as a fans favourite.
He ended the season as leading scorer on three occasions and played 133 times for the Midlands outfit, notching 52 goals.
But he spent last season on loan with Stoke City and finds himself going into the summer without a club after a new contract failed to materialise.
Squad players Moustapha Salifou, Robert Pires and Isaiah Osbourne will also be leaving Villa Park along with youngsters Harry Forrester, Arsenio Halfhuid, Durrell Berry, Ellis Deeney and Calum Flanagan.
Pires was part of Arsenal's Invincibles, winning two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with the Gunners. In total he has played 198 times in the Premier League.
He made nine Barclays Premier League appearances for Villa, seven of them from the bench. but the winger's experience around the club was invaluable to the emerging youngsters.
