Chelsea FC to sell Didier Drogba and sign Luka Modric from Tottenham?

Chelsea could reportedly offer striker Didier Drogba to Tottenham in a bid to sign playmaker Luka Modric

Croatia international Modric, who has also been linked with a move to Manchester United, last weekend hinted that he could leave Spurs this summer, saying that he could wait until transfer deadline day at the end of August before he looks to seek a move away from White Hart Lane.

Tottenham insist the 25-year-old is not for sale, with Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp recently revealing that he has the backing of chairman Daniel Levy over the matter.

But that does not appear to have put the Blues off and according to the Daily Mirror, the west London club could offer striker Didier Drogba to Spurs in order to try and convince the club to sell the midfielder.

33-year-old Drogba is set to be sold by Chelsea this summer, with former club Marseille, AC Milan, Real Madrid and Galatasaray all linked with the Ivory Coast international in recent weeks.

But Redknapp is known to be a big fan of Drogba and has made it clear he would love to sign him if he was available and if the club could afford to sign him.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are ready to offer Modric £130,000 a week to join them this summer - more than double his current £50,000 weekly wage at Tottenham.

And a Chelsea insider told the newspaper: "Not having a manager yet won't slow anything down.

"There's a hitlist of players to sign and Modric is right at the top of it."

Guus Hiddink is still expected to be installed as Chelsea's new manager in the next few days
