Arsenal are lining up a club record bid for Anderlecht’s teenage striking sensation Romelu Lukaku.
Arsene Wenger has been tracking the Belgian international for the best part of 18 months and will this summer look to bring the youngster to the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners boss is ready to offer €20m (£17.9m) for the 18 year old who has impressed greatly during the past two seasons at Brussels based club.
Wenger is keen to beef up his attacking options and his reputation for blooding young players and giving them time to develop in the first team at an early age is sure to interest Lukaku who has been targeted by a number of Europe’s elite after netting 39 goals in two seasons in the Anderlecht first team.
Arsenal have tended to depend too heavily on Dutch international Robin Van Persie who has had his fair share of injury problems over the past few seasons. Marouane Chamakh was brought in on a free transfer last summer and after initially impressing many the Moroccan experienced a severe drop in form. The likes of Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela have consistently failed to make an impact therefore the search is on for reinforcements.
Wenger is also said to be interested in Lille striker Gervinho but will look to persuade Lukaku to make the move to North London.
Anderlecht are said to be resigned to losing the talented young starlet and may well feel that the fee offered by Arsenal is a fair one for a player of such tender years. Chelsea and Real Madrid have also been linked with moves for the powerfully built Antwerp born front man, who’s physique may well suit the Premier League.
