Chelsea 'have bid £45m for Pastore'

Palermo president Maurizio Zamperini claims Chelsea have made a £45million bid for Argentine playmaker Javier Pastore.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have been monitoring Pastore for months but, at least before the arrival of new coach Andre Villas-Boas, he was understood to be below Spurs schemer Luka Modric on their list of targets.
"Pastore is a phenomenal player and there are three or four clubs interested in him," said Zamperini. "I am a businessman and I will not lose my cool, but it is clear that clubs who want Pastore must have the economic power to submit a proposal.
"Chelsea are one of the clubs concerned, but we have to wait to see what Villas-Boas, the new coach, decides. The same goes for Juventus, although they are less interested than the English.
Chelsea may feel their name is being used as Villas-Boas has put transfer plans on the back-burner until he starts his assessment of his squad when pre-season training begins on Wednesday.
Stamford Bridge sources insist claims they are back on the trail of Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero are wide of the mark, although there is genuine interest in striker Radamel Falcao and midfielder Joao Moutinho of Villas-Boas' former club Porto, as well as Benfica left-back Fabio Coentrao.
* Chelsea's behind the scenes clear-out continued last night as the club's Director of Sports Science became the latest to walk the plank. Just days after head medic Dr Bryan English left his post, he was followed out of the door by Nick Broad, who joined the club after spells at Blackburn and Birmingham. Carlo Ancelotti's former assistant Paul Clement and fitness coach Glen Driscoll have also left, with more changes likely as Villas-Boas is given a new-look backroom team.
