Soccer Chelsea FC to sign Guardiola from FC Barcelona after Champions League final?

Chelsea are reportedly keen on appointing Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola as their next manager following tonight's Champions League final

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has wanted Guardiola at Stamford Bridge for some time but until Friday it was not believed he would leave the Spanish champions until the end of next season at the earliest.

But according to the Daily Star, Chelsea could make a move for the Spaniard following comments made about his future on Friday.

On the eve of this evening's Champions League Final against Manchester United, former Barca coach Johan Cruyff revealed that Guardiola could be about to leave Camp Nou, while Guardiola himself has refused to rule out the possibility of leaving.

Cruyff, who is still an advisor at the club, said: "Guardiola has worked very hard over the last few years and it wouldn’t surprise me if he left independently of Saturday’s result.

"If he left, it would only be because it is very difficult to withstand certain pressures in the long term."

Those comments came prior to Guardiola saying about the possibility of leaving Barcelona: "Today is not the day to talk about that. We have worked an enormous amount of time to get here.

"It is a privilege to be here, so let’s not talk about anything else.

"We won this competition two years ago. Leaving? Let’s leave that for another time. The important thing is the club, no matter who the coach might be."

Harry Redknapp on Friday evening was still the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Carlo Ancelotti although Guardiola's comments may well have given Abramovich hope of landing his long-term target.
