Arsenal FC line up Juan Mata as Cesc Fabregas replacement - report

Arsenal want Valencia playmaker Juan Mata to replace Barcelona-bound captain Cesc Fabregas, but could face competition from Tottenham

Arsenal are resigned to losing Fabregas to Barcelona in a £35million deal, with the Spanish giants reportedly hopeful of completing a deal by the end of the week .

The Gunners have lined up 23-year-old Mata as a £20m replacement for Fabregas, but according to the Daily Express, north London rivals Tottenham are also keen on the Spain international.

Mata recently revealed he could stay with Valencia next season after the club qualified for next season's Champions League.

But it is thought that the La Liga club could be forced to sell the talented Spaniard as they look to ease their financial crisis.

Mata has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks, with Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid all believed to be keen on the Los Che star.

Speaking recently, he was quoted as saying: "I want to win a trophy with Valencia next season. I've not planned anything different as I've a contract until 2015."
