The 29-year-old moved to Camp Nou from Valencia in May 2010 in a €40million deal but there have been doubts over his future as a result of Barca last week admitting that they have limited transfer funds this summer.
With the Catalans keen on signing Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas and Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez, players will have to be sold to raise additional funds in the coming weeks.
Although the sale of Villa is not expected by many, reports coming out of Spain over the past few days have suggested that the Champions League winner could decide to cash in on the Spain international.
If that turns out to be the case, then according to Metro, both Chelsea and Man City are ready to bring the forward to the Premier League.
The sale of Villa would be unpopular with Barcelona players, but it could be that Pep Guardiola decides that the former Real Zaragoza striker is worth selling now while his value is high in order for the European champions to keep progressing - especially with rivals Real Madrid looking a much stronger side under Jose Mourinho.
Chelsea may well believe that signing Villa would help bring out the best in £50m striker Fernando Torres, who has failed to impress since his move from Liverpool back in January.
And the Blues, along with big spending Man City, are likely the only two sides in Europe who could afford to sign Villa - other than Real Madrid.
